Universal Design for Learning & accessible learning design
CAST develops Universal Design for Learning (UDL) resources and professional learning focused on reducing barriers in the design of learning experiences.
Who it serves
Teachers, instructional designers, school leaders and learning teams working on accessible and inclusive instruction; CAST also serves postsecondary and workforce settings.
Resources and services
UDL Guidelines, accessibility resources, courses, publications, professional development, digital tools and The Learning Experience Podcast.
Where to start
Start with the UDL Guidelines when reviewing how learners engage with a lesson, encounter information and demonstrate learning. Use them to identify a specific design barrier and possible adjustments. A framework does not replace individualized accommodations or subject-specific curriculum planning.
Access and considerations
The UDL Guidelines can be explored on their public website. Courses, credentials, books and professional services have their own access and pricing terms; review each offering rather than assuming all CAST resources are free.
